What is the CAT?
CAT is the most sought after entrance test for MBA programs in India. The CAT, along with Other Management Entrance Tests (OMETs) like XAT, NMAT (by GMAC), IIFT, SNAP, TISS, MICAT & MHCET, are some of the various computer based MBA entrance tests in India conducted by various business schools.
These tests provides business schools with means to compare the preparedness of applicants for their MBA programs. B-school admission committees use these test scores, and your work experience, academic records, and your overall profile details to assess if you are ready to undertake an MBA program. Each test is conducted either once in a year or within a specific window in a year. Test takers can write the test at a predefined center location. Some tests are also available to be taken from your home.
After the written test, the students who make it, have to appear for a second elimination round that involves writing essays, group discussions and personal interviews. The students who convert this round get admission offers from the B-schools.
